PoultryFlow is a cloud ERP platform purpose-built for commercial poultry farmers in Uganda and East Africa. It integrates flock management, egg production tracking, feed inventory, health & biosecurity, financial accounting, sales invoicing, and AI-powered alerts under one roof — replacing spreadsheets and guesswork with real-time control over every bird, batch, and shilling. The platform includes an offline-first Progressive Web App, mobile money integration, and scales from single-house operations to multi-farm enterprises.

How We Delivered
The Challenge
Poultry farming is East Africa's most accessible agribusiness, but it is also one of the most unforgiving. A single disease outbreak, a missed feed reorder, or a week of untracked mortality can wipe out months of profit. Yet most farmers across Uganda were operating on paper ledgers, WhatsApp groups, and gut feeling.
The gaps were critical:
- Feed inventory managed on scraps of paper farms ran out unexpectedly, losing money and risking bird health
- Mortality spikes went undetected until losses were catastrophic
- Egg production dips were spotted too late
- Financial records were fragmented across notebooks and phone records
- Farm owners had zero visibility into real-time flock health, feed efficiency, or profitability
- Workers in the field had no way to log data when internet was down
- Scaling to multiple farms meant exponentially more complexity
Our Solution
Bitosoft built PoultryFlow as a complete operating system for poultry farming — designed specifically for East Africa's network conditions, mobile-first users, and mobile money payment ecosystem.
Technology Stack:
- Backend: CodeIgniter 4, PHP 8.3, MySQL 8 with Redis caching
- Frontend: HTML5, SCSS, JavaScript with GSAP animations
- Architecture: Multi-tenant SaaS, RESTful API
- Offline capability: Progressive Web App (PWA) with local data queueing
- Payment integration: MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money APIs
- Infrastructure: Cloud hosting with 99.9% uptime SLA
Key Modules Developed:
- Flock Management: Lifecycle tracking for Layers, Broilers, and Hatchery units with phase-based growth curves
- Egg Production: Daily collection entry, hen-day production %, grade-based quality reporting
- Feed Management: Purchase tracking, warehouse stock, distribution per batch, FCR calculation with automatic reorder alerts
- Health & Vaccination: Schedule management, drug inventory with withdrawal period tracking, disease incident logs, outbreak alerts
- Mortality Tracking: Daily natural deaths and culling records, cause analysis, mortality % trends, integration with health spike detection
- Hatchery Management: Egg setting batches, candling records, hatch result tracking, chick dispatch, hatchability reports
- Financial Intelligence: Double-entry GL, per-flock P&L, expense tracking, invoicing, mobile money payment recording
- Offline PWA: Record eggs, mortality, feed, weights with zero internet; data queues locally and auto-syncs when reconnected
- Smart Alerts: AI-powered farm intelligence flagging high mortality, low feed stock, FCR deviations, vaccination due dates, overdue invoices
- Reports & Export: Daily farm summary, batch performance analysis, feed efficiency reports, one-click CSV/PDF exports
The platform went live with a fully responsive landing page, interactive ROI calculator, feature showcase, and pricing tiers (Starter, Growth, Enterprise) in Uganda Shillings. A 14-day free trial with farm setup in under 10 minutes was built to lower barriers to adoption.
The Result
PoultryFlow launched to active adoption across Uganda:
- 100+ farms onboarded in first 3 months
- 500,000+ birds being tracked across the platform
- 99.9% uptime SLA maintained month-over-month
- Farmer feedback: Feed waste reduced by ~18%, mortality detection improved by 40% faster response time
- Revenue impact: Typical 500-bird farm projected to gain UGX 480K monthly revenue through better FCR and reduced mortality
- Market validation: Interest from Kenya and Tanzania; discussions underway for regional expansion
Farmers now have complete visibility into their operations in real time. One large-scale farmer using PoultryFlow reduced unplanned feed stockouts from 6 per year to 0. Another caught a health issue 3 days early through mortality spike alerts, saving an entire 10,000-bird batch from disease loss.
The offline PWA is the game-changer — field workers log data from the poultry house floor with zero connectivity; it queues and syncs automatically, so nothing is ever lost and farm managers have real-time data even in low-connectivity areas of Uganda.
